So if you haven't heard, Meta, the powerhouse behind Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, have just released the newest social media platform Threads. A text based app similar to Twitter, "built by the Instagram team for sharing text updates and joining public conversations". As a social networking platform you are able to connect with and follow your chosen community including those you already follow on Instagram. Fancy. That takes the hard work out of finding who you follow again! As Threads is part of the Metaverse, it has been designed to work in harmony with Instagram. One feature of the new app is that it allows you to share your Threads posts to your Instagram Stories seamlessly. I actually really love the sound of that. You can also use your existing Instagram username to log in! HURRAH! No need for yet another password to remember.

As far as social media health and safety goes, the team at Instagram have incorporated features so you can control you can mention you, reply to you and filter out any words you deem inappropriate or unhealthy. Unfollowing, blocking and restricting are also social media Safety features enabled on Threads.

Should My Brand Have a Threads Account?

It can be overwhelming to think of yet another social media app to use but new apps and social media platforms are now our new normal and we have to be prepared as users and brands to be interested and adapt.

We need to go where are audience go, be interested in what our clients are interested in to connect. That being said, my advice is to do your research. Analyze how your current audience are engaging with you and your accounts. Do they prefer Reels, static posts, reply to your captions and engage in conversation? Or do they like to read your newsletters and blog posts? How often are they online? Where are they? Will they have access to Threads? Are you and your team prepared to engage in "threads" of conversation online?

Bottom line is this: New social media apps come and go. Some have been great for your brand some not so much. The point is, be interested and be informed. Do your research and create or review your social media strategy to include a potential new platform.

Now is a great time to review the performance of your social media marketing strategy. Book a Kickstart Review call with me for only $197 and lets gets your brand clear on whether or not Threads fits in to your strategy.
