6 Ways to Refresh Your Social Media Strategy

Writer: Alicia Young-CollinsAlicia Young-Collins

I'm in the business of working smarter and not harder online and the way to do that is through ensuring I do the work offline first. So with the change of seasons coming, now is a perfect time to take an audit of your brand's social media strategy.

I do the work offline so I remain online.

Here are 6 points to refresh your brand's social media strategy in order to remain relevant, intentional and successful:

  1. Identify Target Audience. Make sure you have a crystal clear idea of who your client is; GET ALL UP IN THEIR BUSINESS. Some light cyber stalking is in order. Once you have a clear idea, create their avatar and record it down. You may be talking to the wrong person, or your business has evolved to another audience. Audit your audience and change the algorithm by following those you want to connect with and deleting the irrelevant accounts.

  2. Increase Brand Awareness. Develop a consistent posting schedule using intentional hashtags. Go where your audience reside both online and offline, (if this is relevant to you. Are all market events productive for your brand? Do these events or markets reach my target audience?)

  3. Engage Followers. Be a "real" company. Where possible, respond to comments and questions on your socials. Make use of interactive features such as Instagram Polls and Live Q&A.

  4. Showcase Your Expertise. Whew this one is a challenge, even for me at times! Do your potential clients know what you do? Do you talk about what you do? Are you sharing your wins? Does your website and social media accounts reflect your expertise?

  5. Enhance Your Visual Appeal. Are you using high quality video and photos on your sites? Instagram pushes content which is high definition and of quality, meaning it contains content the people want to see. Is your brand identity consistent across all your platforms?

  6. Pay To Promote. You have to play the game and setting aside a budget for periodic paid promotions aimed at a targeted audience for a specific purpose can do wonders for your brand. So ensure to regularly plan your promotions, start quarterly and ensure to review these promotions via analytics to gauge the success of the promotion.
